Protecting Our Customers.
We always follow a thorough qualification and fact finding process to ensure that any agreement that you enter into is suitable for your purposes, affordable and to ensure you do not enter into any agreement that would not be in your best interests. When you apply for credit, our lenders will often use a process know as Credit Scoring. This will help them to assess your application and to ensure that you are able to meet with the financial commitment of the contract comfortably, and to fulfill their duties as a responsible lender. Declined application based on this automated decision-making process can sometimes be reviewed manually upon request. Evidence of affordability, such as bank statements, pay-slips, tax return or additional accounting information for businesses may be required.
In consideration of a credit application, lenders will search your records at Credit Reference Agencies. They will add to your credit file details of their search and your application, this will be seen by other organisations that carry out a search on you, or your business. They will also add to your record with the Credit Reference Agencies details of any new agreement you enter with them, the payments or rentals that you make under it, any default or failure to keep to its terms and any change of address you fail to tell them about where a payment is overdue. It is important that you provide us with accurate information, particularly with your income & expenditure to ensure you can afford the financial commitment. The lenders will also check your details with fraud prevention agencies and if any false information is given, or if a fraud is suspected, this will be recorded & reported.
We and other organisations may use and search those records to:
Help make decisions about credit & credit related services for you and members of your household.
Trace debtors, recover debt, prevent fraud & manage your accounts.
Check your identity to prevent money laundering unless you furnish us with satisfactory proof of identity.
For these purposes, they or we may make further searches. The Credit Reference Agencies and Fraud Prevention Agencies will also use the records of statistical analysis about insurance & fraud.
If you have experienced problems obtaining credit, we recommend you request a copy of your credit file from the Credit Reference Agencies and review the information they hold for you. They will charge for this service and the addresses are noted below.
For Our Business Customers.
The Data Protection Act does not apply to companies in themselves, but it does extend to sole trader & partnerships. When an application is received from a business, information may be required for Company Directors, Partners or the Proprietor. This information may be shared with the Credit Reference Agencies.
